Itinerary for The Art & Culture of Cuba Plein Air Painting Trip
January 11th- 18th, 2020
SATURDAY, JANUARY 11TH
We will depart our respective cities, and meet at an airport in Florida, to be on the same flight as we arrive in Havana, Cuba. Once in Havana, we will check into our beautiful Casa Particular in the Vedado area of Havana. We will meet that evening for dinner, explore the neighborhood, and enjoy the musical talent at a local Jazz Club!
SUNDAY, JANUARY 12TH
After a delicious Cuban breakfast at our Casa Particular, we will have the opportunity to cruise the streets of the capitol city in style, with a ride in one of the gorgeous classic cars that the island is known for. Along our ride we will see the famous Plaza de la Revolución and Callejón de Hamel, before enjoying lunch. That afternoon we will go on a walking tour of Old Havana, and visit an art exhibition celebration the 500th Anniversary of the City of Havana. We will then get dinner as a group.
MONDAY, JANUARY 13TH
After breakfast we will head east of Havana to Finca Vigia, also known as Hemingway's Cuban estate. After exploring the property and museum, we will be able to paint en plein air on the property. After painting, we will eat lunch, and continue on to the small town of San Francisco de Paula to experience the new community cultural center, Proyectongo. We will eat dinner on our return to Havana, and plan to work on a nighttime painting.
TUESDAY, JANUARY 14TH
Today we will be up and on the road early to travel to Las Terrazas, an ecological preserve with an artists colony. We will tour the compound and visit with artists, and after lunch we will have time to paint, hike, enjoy the river and explore. We will have dinner after our journey back home.
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 15TH
After breakfast we will go to explore Fusterlandia, an artistic and cultural marvel. From there we will go to the coast and set up for plein air painting before and after lunch. After painting in the afternoon, we will go home to rest and have some free time. We will meet for dinner that evening, and afterwards experience the vibrant Cabaret Parisian at a famous Hotel Nacional.
THURSDAY, JANUARY 16TH
Today will be a painting day! After breakfast we will head to Plaza de Armas in Old Havana to set up for a morning painting session. We will then head to the Cuban Museum of Fine Arts for a tour before lunch. After lunch we will head to Parque Central for another plein air painting session. When we're done painting, we will head home to change and rest, in preparation for our dinner at The Art Factory (FAC).
FRIDAY, JANUARY 17TH
This morning after breakfast we will get on the ferry to Casablanca to set up for plein air painting. We will make our way over to El Moro for lunch, and a then have a tour. We will then visit a cigar factory, followed by free time. Later in the evening we will have our farewell dinner together at a fantastic Cuban restaurant.
SATURDAY, JANUARY 18TH
After our last breakfast at our Casa Particular, we will have free time to gather our belongings and memories of the beautiful island, and prepare to return home to the United States.
